The WGA-registered "Lilah's Lair" cloaks a mystery with black humor. It focuses on "female Salinger" Julia Martin, who juggles running a bookstore with raising her 16-year-old daughter, Becca. Julia's carefully quilted deceptions unravel when she learns that Becca has found her old diaries and deduced the identity of her dad. That discovery, however, is but a frayed seam in the fabric of life compared to what follows: Becca's disappearance. The cop on the case quickly hones in on a suspect: Becca's English teacher, who frequented Becca's website - a site the teen used to sell her panties. While his investigation unfolds, Julia heads off to warn Becca's dad, a philandering college professor who has no idea that he has a daughter, let alone one possibly headed in his direction.
